Functionally, the revoked Android license means delayed Google updates and, for Huawei&#8217;s future devices, no access to apps like Gmail or the Play Store.<\/p>\n<p>Google confirmed the report on Saturday evening. &#8220;We are complying with the order and reviewing the implications,&#8221; a company spokesperson wrote in an email. Reuters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-huawei-tech-alphabet-exclusive\/exclusive-google-suspends-some-business-with-huawei-after-trump-blacklist-source-idUSKCN1SP0NB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">first reported the news<\/a> via unnamed sources on Sunday afternoon, and The Verge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2019\/5\/19\/18631558\/google-huawei-android-suspension\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">followed up<\/a> a couple hours later with \u2014 again, anonymously sourced \u2014 confirmation.<\/p>\n<p>The move from Google comes in the midst of an ongoing trade war between the United States and China. It was likely prompted <a href=\"https:\/\/me.mashable.com\/tech\/4933\/trump-may-sign-an-order-that-effectively-bans-huawei-in-the-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by an executive order<\/a> Donald Trump signed on Wednesday that bars U.S. businesses from using telecommunications equipment made by companies that pose a national security risk.<\/p>\n<p>With the license cut off, Huawei would only have access to the <a href=\"https:\/\/source.android.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">open source version<\/a> of Android (or AOSP, for Android Open Source Project). Think of it as a more limited version of Google&#8217;s operating system.
