As if this Fourth of July wasn&#8217;t already cursed enough.<\/p>\n<p>As scattered fireworks celebrations were beginning across crowdless cities on the East Coast Saturday night, Kanye West, the controversial rapper and fashion mogul, decided to log on to Twitter and let the world know that he would be running for president of the United States in 2020.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time Kanye has <a data-mashable-story-id=\"5f01449b49baf4005300000f\" href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/2016\/11\/18\/kanye-west-presidential-platform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">discussed running in 2020<\/a>, but it&#8217;s by far his most official statement. Until today, we&#8217;d all assumed the election in November would be between <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/kanye-west-iphone-trump-password\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kanye&#8217;s pal<\/a> President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden, but perhaps this Saturday night surprise will change the game \u2014 for better or worse.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>More likely, though, this is just Kanye West trying to promote his new album (which is called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/kanye-west-gods-country-1021903\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>God&#8217;s Country<\/em><\/a>, making it even more notable that he dropped God&#8217;s name in his tweet) and possibly some of his overpriced clothes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"twitter-wrapper sort-rerender\">\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. But as it stands, we&#8217;re in midst of historic protests for racial justice and we&#8217;re still facing down the very real danger of a global pandemic, which continues to ravage the country. Nearly 130,000 Americans have already died of COVID-19, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/07\/03\/health\/coronavirus-mortality-testing.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cases across much of the United States<\/a> continues to climb.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If Kanye&#8217;s supposed entrance into the race actually changes the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, it&#8217;s absolutely what we deserve.<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s 2020, and I&#8217;m tired. We&#8217;re all tired.
