Perhaps you long for the days when your grandmother made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/ariannarebolini\/truly-upsetting-vintage-recipes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lime Cheese Salad<\/a>, a delightful combination of Jell-O, cottage cheese, and seafood. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Either way, your most debased and nostalgic food favorites now have a home on<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Old_Recipes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> r\/Old_Recipes<\/a>, a new and popular subreddit dedicated to people&#8217;s favorite vintage recipes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"see-also\">\n<p class=\"see-also-link\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"http:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/exploring-the-toxic-world-of-female-privilege?utm_cid=a-seealso\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Exploring the toxic world of &#8216;female privilege&#8217;<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In just two days, the subreddit has earned over 41,000 followers at the time of writing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sure, there are plenty of sites and communities that collect vintage recipes and culinary creations. There&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vintagerecipes.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vintagerecipes.net<\/a>, which includes plenty of fanciful creations. I&#8217;m a huge fan of <a href=\"http:\/\/Tumblr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tumblr<\/a> and Twitter account <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/70s_party?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@70s_party<\/a>, which includes photos of foods prepared for &#8217;70s dinner parties, as well as ads from the era and cookbooks.<\/p>\n<p>But r\/Old_Recipes is particularly good because it&#8217;s so comprehensive. Recipes and photos are posted for a variety of reasons. Some of these recipes are here because they&#8217;re both personal to the Reddit user and delicious, including this delightful three-ingredient recipe devised by someone&#8217;s grandmother for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Old_Recipes\/comments\/c1x1k1\/grandmas_lemon_bars_aka_the_hit_at_every_family\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lemon bars<\/a> and this one for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Old_Recipes\/comments\/c1upz1\/mamaws_no_bake_cookies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mamaw&#8217;s No Bake Cookies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Others are here for the purely historic, nostalgic factor. I&#8217;m a particular fan of this side-by-side comparison of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra&#8217;s hamburger recipes. Frank&#8217;s includes the step &#8220;Tell him to make you a fuckin&#8217; burger.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"reddit-card\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Old_Recipes\/comments\/c1l1mf\/frank_sinatra_and_dean_martins_hamburger_recipes\/?ref_source=embed&amp;ref=share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin\u2019s hamburger recipes<\/a> from<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Old_Recipes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Old_Recipes<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/embed.redditmedia.com\/widgets\/platform.js\"><\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>These historical recipes from the World War I era don&#8217;t have any eggs and include throwback lines like &#8220;By not using eggs in desserts at meals where meat is served, the housewife can reserve the eggs to use at other meals in the place of meat,&#8221; and &#8220;There is not an egg in these and the family is just as well pleased.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"reddit-card\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Old_Recipes\/comments\/c1x9ht\/1918_war_time_recipes\/?ref_source=embed&amp;ref=share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1918 war time recipes<\/a> from<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Old_Recipes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Old_Recipes<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>This particular recipe calls for coffee, a small egg <em>with a shell<\/em>, and boiling water puts my family&#8217;s Keurig machine to shame. However, I will never \u2014 <em>ever<\/em> \u2014 put an egg shell within 100 feet of my coffee.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"reddit-card\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Old_Recipes\/comments\/c1ue8a\/oldschool_coffee\/?ref_source=embed&amp;ref=share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">old-school coffee<\/a> from<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Old_Recipes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Old_Recipes<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>I especially love the sassy or self-deprecating notes people have left next to recipes. People&#8217;s attitude towards themselves and the shitty recipes they&#8217;ve used really comes through, and it&#8217;s a beautiful thing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Shout out to whoever called this recipe for Deviled Dried Beef, which includes fat, eggs, and meat shards, &#8220;shit.&#8221; Frankly, Frizzled Dried Beef, which lacks vinegar and mustard and which has a far cooler name, looks far superior.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"reddit-card\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Old_Recipes\/comments\/c1wxw6\/a_fair_warning_left_in_this_cookbook_from_1927\/?ref_source=embed&amp;ref=share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A fair warning left in this cookbook from 1927.<\/a> from<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Old_Recipes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Old_Recipes<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>But it&#8217;s the disgusting, vomit-inducing recipes where r\/Old_Recipes truly shines. I&#8217;m profoundly horrified by most Jell-O-based recipes, as I am by Jell-O itself, but historical Jell-O recipes often combined sweets with fat or spice. There are so many other different, highly imaginative ways vintage recipes could be foul. r\/Old_Recipes is a wonderful place to capture so many of them. There are recipes here for Broiled Squirrel, published by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.remington.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Remington Arms Company<\/a> \u2014 which manufactures firearms \u2014 Whale Stew, something called Burgoo, Broiled Mayonnaise, Cottage Avocado Quickie, and &#8220;salads that men like.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I, for one, am delighted to see the word quickie, often utilized to describe a quick act of copulation, used to describe a cottage and avocado creation.
