It can teach you things, open up your imagination and save you from making some pretty crazy mistakes in your every day life (thanks, Google.)<\/p>\n<p>Reddit user <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/books\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">r\/books<\/a> took to the aptly named forum and asked, \u201cHas reading actually increased your vocabulary?\u201d Other users decided to share some of their most hilarious and unusual mishaps with the English language and just how \u201cincreased\u201d their vocabulary has become.<\/p>\n<h3>These are just great<\/h3>\n<h3>1. This person who&#8217;s feeling the breeze&#8230; though<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cI had a friend from Malaysia whose English was quite good, but there were little odd things he&#8217;d say. One day we went outside and he looked around and said, &#8220;It&#8217;s windy, though&#8221;. That was in 1986 and I have used that ever since.\u201d &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/user\/juche\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">juche<\/a><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" class=\"giphy-embed\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"288\" src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/3o6Mbt88G90KJkRaP6\" style=\"width: 480; height: 288px\" width=\"480\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>2. This person who&#8230; did what on where?<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cI used to work with a foreign guy and when he would tell me about something that someone told him face to face\/to his face he would say &#8220;he told me on my face\u201d. I would giggle on the inside.\u201d &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/user\/sdforbda\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">sdforbda<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>3. This person who better hope no one is listening to this conflict<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cEnglish is my second language. I hear \u201cears dropping \u201c and thought the expression comes from dropping your ears into someone\u2019s conversation. This person who made something cute out of something&#8230; not that cute<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cMy father had a student who thought a &#8216;socialist treaty&#8217; was a &#8216;socialist treatsy&#8217;. So every time we did a good job of something my mum would buy us a little bar of chocolate and call it our socialist treatsy. This person who got it a little out-of-context but not totally wrong<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cAbout 15 years ago I helped my best friend learn English when he first moved here (US) from Colombia. About a year into living here and working with me, he comes home one day, plops down heavily on the couch with a loud sigh and declares &#8220;ahhhh, but i digress&#8221;. This person who may or may not be asleep<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cI had a roommate in Rome who always added a \u201ct\u201d in the middle of \u201cI fell asleep.\u201d I never figured out if he thought it was supposed to be \u201cI felt asleep\u201d or \u201cI fell to sleep\u201d &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/user\/MokiAH\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">MokiAH<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>7.
