Of course, any apprehension die-hard fans might&#8217;ve felt were likely quelled some by the return of creator and director Vince Gilligan and fan favorite Aaron Paul as Jesse.<\/p>\n<p>That said, a made-for-streaming movie that acts as a latter-day epilogue to what many call one of the greatest television shows of all time is a premise that&#8217;s almost a perfect set up for a hit-or-miss scenario.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In her review, Mashable&#8217;s Angie Han explained that <a href=\"https:\/\/me.mashable.com\/entertainment\/7425\/el-camino-is-a-cushy-victory-lap-for-breaking-bad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;the best reason to watch <em>El Camino<\/em> is that it&#8217;s simply fun to be back in this world again&#8221;<\/a> and that the film lacks essential elements when it comes to the broader narrative arc of the <em>Breaking Bad <\/em>universe.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the reviews are in&#8230; and they&#8217;re split between two camps: does <em>El Camino <\/em>hold its own? Or, is it just an unnecessary continuation of the shows final episode, &#8220;Felina&#8221;?<\/p>\n<h2>\n<em>El Camino <\/em>is worth the watch as it<em> <\/em>adds to <em>Breaking Bad<\/em><br \/>\n<\/h2>\n<p>Judy Berman, <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/5697330\/el-camino-breaking-bad-movie-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TIME<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s to the credit of Gilligan, who wrote and directed the film, that it feels like a continuation of\u00a0<em>Breaking Bad<\/em>\u00a0without also feeling like merely an extra-long TV episode. It\u2019s a true movie, with the taut pacing, satisfying conclusion and grand visual scale that distinction implies. The big screen does justice to the same detailed sound design and nimble camera work\u2014replete with destabilizing effects such as scenes that open from bizarre vantage points or follow heretofore unknown characters\u2014that made for one of the most cinematic series in the history of television&#8230; Even if you have a Netflix subscription, this harsh splendor is worth the price of a movie ticket.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Shirley Li, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/entertainment\/archive\/2019\/10\/el-camino-breaking-bad-movie-review\/599824\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Atlantic<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Is it worth continuing a story that already had such a definitive ending?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The answer, as it turns out: absolutely.\u00a0<em>El Camino<\/em>, out today, lives up to\u00a0<em>Breaking Bad<\/em>\u2019s legacy of propulsive storytelling. That story might have avoided being a \u201cBreaking Bad\u201d cover band by jumping ahead and changing up its rhythms, much as \u201cBetter Call Saul\u201d found\u00a0new moral angles\u00a0on its subject by delving into the past. Instead, \u201cEl Camino\u201d has more in common with the narco-drama half of \u201cSaul,\u201d which hunts the \u201cBreaking Bad\u201d desert to unearth origin stories and hide Easter eggs.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Daniel Fienberg, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/review\/el-camino-a-breaking-bad-movie-review-1246936\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;d suggest that maybe revisiting the character a year or two (or six) further along might have been a better approach. Not &#8220;What happened to Jesse immediately?&#8221; but &#8220;What happened to Jesse eventually?&#8221; That&#8217;s not this. This is a simulacrum of past momentum and the tiniest of slaps in the face to viewers who thought the second half of that final season was exactly the end Gilligan wanted only to be told, &#8220;Fooled you! Here&#8217;s a post-script.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Matt Goldberg, <a href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/el-camino-review-breaking-bad-movie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Collider<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>If <em>El Camino<\/em> were recut, you could easily see the film just becoming a few more episodes that weren\u2019t included in the final season because they would seriously slow the momentum. The problem is that even as a movie, <em>El Camino<\/em> doesn\u2019t provide the depth and texture of <em>Breaking Bad&#8230; <\/em>It\u2019s not as sublime as the acclaimed show, and it was never going to recapture what made <em>Breaking Bad<\/em> special without the Walter White of it all, but <em>El Camino<\/em> doesn\u2019t diminish the towering legacy of Gilligan\u2019s series.
