Japanese news outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www3.nhk.or.jp\/nhkworld\/en\/news\/20191014_11\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NHK reported train service<\/a> shutdowns throughout the weekend. The route from Nagano to J\u014detsumy\u014dk\u014d station on the coast is still closed as of Monday evening. The <a href=\"https:\/\/traininfo.jreast.co.jp\/train_info\/e\/shinkansen.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">East Japan Railway website<\/a> listed suspended operations because of the typhoon. More than 23,000 residents were evacuated and millions notified about evacuations before the storm made landfall.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Extreme weather could become a regular issue for mass transit systems like a national railway, especially for a storm- and earthquake-prone country like Japan.
