By all accounts, we will be living with the Coronavirus pandemic well into 2021. Until there is a vaccine, the onus is on all of us to incorporate science-backed practices into our daily routines to protect ourselves and to control its spread.
Like washing your hands.
If you sport an Apple Watch, the Cupertino-based tech major is giving you a hand with your hand-washing in the WatchOS 7, which was revealed yesterday at its virtual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).
A feature called Automatic Handwashing Detection will start a 20-second countdown when the Watch figures you’re washing your hands—the timing as suggested by health authorities as the minimum time you must scrub with soap and water for 20 seconds to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
In practice, the feature will show the timer on your watch face as a bubbly animation, and will prompt you to keep going should you stop washing your hands before the 20 seconds are up. If you do make it to 20 seconds, it will pat you on the back with a “Well Done.”
The feature is an opt-in, Apple said, and it also keep a track of how often and for how long you wash your hands.
Aka history (and Apple) will have a record of how well you fought the virus.
